Meet the whole team! Our team is our family! We are here for all your waterproofing, mold remediation, and foundation repair needs!
In this Before and After comparison, you can see how easy it is to install a Waterguard Perimeter drain interior waterproofing system into even the most complicated basement perimeters. Once the Waterguard system is installed, it is capable of directing both wall and perimeter water to the sump pump system to be removed from the basement. It's practically invisible, too, since the entire system sits below the surface of the basement slab!
Crawlspace access wells are ugly and deteriorated! They let in rain, groundwater, debris, critters, and all manner of disgusting stuff. The homeowners of this home were tired of the seasonal water intrusion and the resulting mold and mildrew problems inherent in a flooded crawlspace.
Here is the same crawlspace with a Turtl crawlspace access door installed. The Turtl crawlspace door is airtight and able to be secured. They are designed to make for a safer and easier access without sharp edges. They are durable and much more appealing aesthetically.
These Shepherdsville homeowners have stated that with the Turtl door combined with a CleanSpace crawlspace encapsulation system has created a crawlspace that is dry all the time, absent of critters, and cleaner and brighter than ever!
There are different levels of water intrusion in a basement. Some basements just leak a little and it doesn't feel like much of a big deal. Other basements have consistent flooding that can really fill up the space with water in no time! Because there are different amounts of water intrusion, there are different levels of sump pumps. The most powerful sump pump on the market is the TripleSafe sump pump. The rugged plastic body hold not one but three pumps set at different heights to handle every level of water intrusion possible. The first pump is for the regular water load that comes in rain or shine. The second pump is set higher up to help pump when a sudden rainstorm starts filling the basket quickly. Finally, there's a third pump even higher up that runs on a battery back up and can kick on if the pump is overwhelmed.
Dirt crawlspaces are the most common type of below grade space in Jasper, IN. Most homes are built on them due to the high groundwater levels in the area. Unfortunately, dirt crawlspaces can become a big mess when they flood. All that dirt becomes a slippy, muddy mess and that moisture gets sucked up into your home due to the laws of air pressure. In order to make a home safer for asthmatics and allergy sufferers, it is recommended to install a crawlspace encapsulation system that decreases the relative humidity in a crawlspace, reducing mold growth, and creating a space that will be conditioned with the rest of the home.
The most effective crawlspace encapsulation system is called CleanSpace. CleanSpace is an engineered film that is guaranteed for 25 years against rips, tears, and water on top of the liner. How can a guarantee like this offered? Healthy Spaces only employs the best industry technicians and then has them factory trained and certified by Basement Systems in proper installation techniques. It doesn't stop there, either, our technicians are provided with continuous training and update opportunities through our relationship with Basement Systems.
In fact, what you see in these pictures is a technique that was perfected by our technicians during their CleanSpace installation training course. The only way to create a truly encapsulated crawlspace to make sure that the support pillars, walls, floor, and vents are all properly covered. When CleanSpace is installed, the first step is to properly wrap all support pillars and then marry that wrapping with the CleanSpace floor. By providing complete isolation from the dirt surrounding the crawlspace, our technicans seal off the home from all that groundwater intrusion. Then, the HVAC system works more efficiently to condition the home, even the crawlspace!
Fordsville, KY, like most of the surrounding areas has two struggles to deal with: high groundwater levels and lots of dirt floor crawlspaces. The combination of the two creates a crawlspace mold epidemic that has largely been ignored by many residents until the mold infestation is quite advanced. After all, how often do we really inspect our crawlspaces? As you can see here, the mold situation in this Fordsville crawlspace was advanced and causing issues like musty, damp smells throughout the home, increased indoor allergies, and more frequent sinus related and respiratory illnesses. When the homeowners went to inspect the crawlspace, they discovered that mold was growing over practically every surface in the crawlspace. The homeowners immediately contacted Healthy Spaces to get the crawlspace remediated.
Donnie Stutesville, a mold remediation expert with Healthy Spaces, came out and inspected the crawlspace. He recommended a three pronged approach to resolving the crawlspace mold and moisture issues:
1. Remediate the mold and fungus
2. Remove standing water, debris, and the like
3. Seal the crawlspace with a vapor barrier
Donnie recommended both a mold/fungus treatment and a preventative coating to stop regrowth. He explained that the mold and fungus treatment would need to be scrubbed off of all surfaces to remove the dead fungi and spores, then that debris would need to be removed prior to coating the entire crawlspace with a preventative solution. In addition, the crawlspace needed a water removal system with sump pump and a dehumidifier. Finally, the entire crawlspace needed a powerful vapor barrier installed to prevent the crawlspace from becoming moldy again. You can see in the after photo that the mold removal was successful and the wood looks great with it's clear preventative coating in place!
Crawlspaces are notorious for having mold problems and being incredibly energy inefficient. This crawlspace in Elberfeld, IN was pretty typical for crawlspaces in the area: dirt floor, occasional flooding, open vents and doorways, and uninsulated walls. The experts at Healthy Spaces set out to change the space for the homeowners into an area that would be conditioned and energy efficient. In this case, the entire crawlspace was treated for mold and the existing, moldy insulation was removed. Every surface was scrubbed and the floor leveled. Next, the installation team insulated with the walls with a product called SilverGlo. It's a high efficiency, mold resistant panel insulation secured around the inside of the foundation walls. The spaces in between the subfloor joists are also insulated and secured in place with expanding foam insulation. Once those components are set and dried, the team will encapsulate the entire crawlspace with CleanSpace. The crawlspace will then be isolated from the dirt and outside air, allowing for greater energy efficiency and warmer floors this season!
So often, crawlspace access areas are left open, or covered with a sheet of plywood. These inadequate sorts of covers allow in moisture, insects, mold spores, etc. A vented crawlspace is a recipe for disaster in that regard.
In the pictures, you can see the old crawlspace access as the crew begins to install an EverLast Crawlspace Door by Basement Systems. EverLast Doors are made from 1/2 inch thick plastic. This way, the EverLast door will never shrink, warp, crack or rot like a wood door can. This durable, airtight door is a necessary component to any CleanSpace installation to make the crawlspace truly encapsulated and air-tight. This way, you have an energy efficient, aesthetically pleasing crawlspace entrance.
The EverLast door is completely maintenance-free because it will never warp, need painting, or rot. It is also easy to open when access is required.
Healthy Spaces waterproofing specialists can help you determine which crawlspace drainage system and accompanying sump pump system are best to achieve your goals. In this case, drainage matting and the all-around crawlspace drainage pipe are best.
This particular crawlspace has moisture seeping up from the floor. When water is coming in from every angle of the floor, this style of drainage system can direct groundwater into any crawlspace sump pump system from Basement Systems.
Here, you can see the drainage system installed in the ground. Next, it is covered with the drainage matting. All of this will be overlaid with CleanSpace and will be invisible.
One of the most amazing things about the Waterguard perimeter drainage system is that it is only one component of a customizable waterproofing system and it is able to be installed in virtually every basement in Evansville!
Here, you can see how the Waterguard system has been laid in the prepared trench and it is curved around an existing brick portion in the basement. That brick is actually the fireplace and water was coming in to the trench around the fireplace even during installation! The Healthy Spaces installation crew has insured that the entire perimeter of the basement is now protected against future water intrusion and they were able to direct existing water into the system during installation to keep the basement dry while they worked!
Mold is never a good thing. Sometimes, it's caused by a flooding crawlspace, increased groundwater, and other easy to combat issues. Other times, the source of the moisture feeding the mold is a bit harder to detect. In this Corydon, KY home, the source of the moisture took several months to discover and by that time, the mold growth was explosive! The problem began with a small leak in the line coming out from the washing machine. It was a dripping that traveled along the pipe and was virtually undetectable because it was happening within the walls. After time, the surrounding area was so moist that the drywall collapsed upon itself at a touch. The surrounding carpet and pad, subfloor, and pipes were all covered in a thick layer of mold.
As you can see in the before picture, the mold was growing all over the area, which was hidden beneath the house and was only visible in the crawlspace. It wasn't until a design specialist from Healthy Spaces took a look at the crawlspace that the damage was finally revealed. It's suspected that the leak had been occurring for at least 9 months before it was severe enough to be detected.
The after photo shows the amazing difference that the mold remediation team at Healthy Spaces created. They treated the affected area with Biocide and Forticell to kill the mold, then thoroughly scrubbed every surface to remove the spores and dead mold. After removing the debris, they made sure the leak had been resolved and were able to repair any damage from the mold in the subfloor.
In these photos, you can see a crawlspace that is being treated for mold. Once the mold treatment was complete and the surfaces were thoroughly scrubbed, the debris was rolled in black plastic and removed from the crawlspace. Then, new black plastic was laid along the floor for the second phase of mold treatment. Once that is complete, the black plastic will be removed again and CleanSpace will be installed. Before the CleanSpace is adhered to the walls, the homeowners elected to insulate their crawlspace foundation walls with SilverGlo!
In these two pictures, you can see the bare foundation walls had been covered with backerboard sheets, which are very low R-rating for insulation. In the After picture, you can see the shiny surface of the SilverGlo! Not only is it an R11 rating, but it's complete with the shiny layer to reflect back heat/cool into the crawlspace. Once the crawl space system, complete with CleanSpace, is installed, the homeowners will notice energy efficiency and savings!
