This Sandborn, IN home is pretty typical for the area. It was built on a dirt crawlspace, with block foundation walls. The home suffers from the common issues that most Sandborn homes do; namely, mold and crawlspace flooding. The mold has grown all over the wooden subfloor and wooden joists in the crawlspace and has created a funky odor that fills the home. On top of the unpleasant smell, there's a distinct moistness to the air that indicates elevated relative humidity levels. The homeowners feel like their allergies get worse when they are at home for an extended period of time. They contacted Healthy Spaces to see the best way to reduce the crawlspace moisture and flooding, eliminate the mold, and restore their indoor air quality.
The Healthy Spaces Team remediated the mold using Forticel and Biocide, then set about installing a groundwater removal system and overlaying that with a high quality vapor barrier called CleanSpace. The entire project took 4 days to complete and the homeowners noticed an immediate reduction in allergy systems. The indoor air quality was increased right away and the home feels much better. As an added bonus, the homeowners now have a usable crawlspace storage area!
Sometimes, you have the perfect set up for a really great compare and contrast story. This is one of those set ups. Two families call in to Healthy Spaces from Decker, IN. They don't live particularly close to one another. They did; however, end up having extraordinarily similar crawlspaces! Both families had groundwater intrusion issues, both tested positive for mold. Both families needed waterproofing systems installed and also wanted vapor barriers. They both chose to have their mold mitigated and waterproofing services performed by Healthy Spaces.
Here's where the differences came in. One family chose to have CleanSpace vapor barrier installed. It's a multi-layered system that's guaranteed against rips, tears, and water on top of the liner for 25 years. The other family chose to have a standard black plastic vapor barrier installed. It's a single layer of black plastic, durable, but not guaranteed. Both families went on to choose the same sump pumps, the same water removal system with EZFlow drain tiles, and both had the same high quality installation service provided by Healthy Spaces. Now, one family rests easy knowing that they won't have to replace their vapor barrier or worry about it wearing it. The other family, well, they are truly happy with their service, but they are already budgeting for a CleanSpace installation in the next couple years.
These Bruceville, IN homeowners were struggling with a really nasty crawlspace. Their previous vapor barrier was ineffective and the mold was out of control. There was also a spider infestation to deal with. The Healthy Spaces Design Specialist, Mike Rogers, had the right solution at the right price for these homeowners.
After remediating the 1,176 square foot crawlspace for mold, the Healthy Spaces installation team began work on the real difference makers. The installation included 1,176 square feet of Terrablock insulation, drainage matting, and Cleanspace. The crew installed SilverGlo wall product over the Terrablock insulation to finish off making the crawlspace as insulated and comfortable as possible. The CleanSpace vapor barrier over that will keep the entire crawlspace sealed off from the dirt and water intrusion previously experienced. They also installed a SmartSump sump pump and Sanidry CX Air System. All in all, the project took about 6 days and has made a huge difference to the homeowners HVAC system efficiency and has created a cost savings each month on the heating and air conditioning bill.
This Bicknell, IN home, like many in Knox county, is built on a dirt crawlspace. Dirt floor crawlspaces can be a problem because groundwater intrusion really makes a big mess. This bungalow home was built on a 936 square foot dirt floor crawlspace and it's a muddy mess right now. The homeowners noticed that it was smelly musty and stinky. Shortly after that, the Healthy Spaces team was able to spot mold in the subfloor joists.
The homeowners elected to have a Bio-cide and Forticell mold remediation treatment performed prior to leveling the dirt floor and installing drainage matting and CleanSpace Crawlspace encapuslation system over an EZFlow Drainage system complete with SuperSump sump pump.
These Bicknell, IN homeowners needed a basement flooding solution to keep their basement dry all the time. They had previous had fungus remediated and realized that they had fungus issues again.
Chris Russell, Design Specialist with Healthy Spaces, came out and designed a custom waterproofing solution for this home. The home will have the entire 1396 square foot basement remediated for fungus prior to installing Waterguard perimeter drain system. The system will include 5 inspection ports for annual maintenance and easy cleaning. In addition, there will be 4 linear feet of trench drain installed across the exterior basement door. A TripleSafe sump pump will be installed along with a rigid discharge line complete with two IceGuards and Lawnscapes. Finally the basement environment will be completely conditioned with a SaniDry Upright dehumidifier.
Steffany E. had water seeping into her basement every time it rained. Ruining not just her furniture, but her boxes filled with toys from her kids when they were younger. Furniture can always be replaced but her memories with specific toys that were boxed away cannot be replaced. Steffany decided that by next rainfall, she will have found a company to inspect what the issue was and get it fixed. That's when she called Healthy Spaces who offered her a solution in eliminating her water problem - FOR GOOD!
The major components of Steffany's waterproofing system included the installation of a TripleSafe Sump Pump, Trench Drain, and WaterGuard interior basement waterproofing system. In addition to those products, we recommended installing a SaniDry Duct, IceGuard, and LawnScape Outlet. Each one of these products is essential and works together to effectively keep the basement dry! Our TripleSafe Sump Pump System is not just reliable, it's also very powerful. It can discharge 2,220 gallons of water per hour at an 8ft discharge head quietly and efficiently.
There's no doubt that Steffany will have some peace of mind knowing that her memories of her children's toys are stored safely (and dry!) in her basement. Healthy Spaces is pleased knowing that they could solve Steffany's problem with her wet basement in Oaktown, IN once and for all!
Jon has a 1200 sq. foot single story home with a full basement. They started to notice a horizontal crack located on one wall that seemed to become worse within the last month or two. He began to worry that the crack may not be safe and knew he needed to get it repaired ASAP. After doing some research online, he came across Healthy Spaces and decided to give us a call after reading all of our reviews.
Their Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, did a thorough inspection of the home and with Jon, they designed a system that would take care of his walls being pushed in at the bottom, causing the horizontal crack.
The major component of Jon's system includes installing 10 Geo-Lock Anchors around the perimeter of the home. Wall anchors are the best opportunity to straighten the wall over time and can fix severe problems such as leaning walls and walls sliding in at the bottom. There's also minimal disturbance from installed.
Jon and his family now have some peace of mind knowing that Healthy Spaces was able to fix their problem once and for good!
