Crawl Space & Basement Encapsulation and Waterproofing in Mt. Carmel, IL

Challenge

This homeowner in Mt. Carmel, IL has lived in their home for over 23 years. They noticed a musty smell in their basement but has never had water issues. However, they do however have a small crawl space under their home that they never went into until recently. Once in the crawl space, the odor smell got became more distinctive and they noticed fungus growth near the left corner. That's when they finally said "enough is enough," and decided to call Healthy Spaces.

Our Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, came to their home and listened to their needs and wants and came up with a plan to give these homeowners everything they wanted and a peace of mind of never having to worry about these issues again.

Solution

Our Foreman Lead, Tad Gilcrest, and his crew installed the proposed solution from Damon which included a full perimeter of WaterGuard below-floor drain system, a SuperSump pump system to make sure the water gets evacuated, and we put a SaniDry XP dehumidifier in the space to keep the air dry and prevent mustiness.

Finally, we encapsulated the crawl space with a CleanSpace encapsulation and put spray foam in the rim joists of the crawl space to keep the area sealed. We also installed our Ultimate Energy Savings package, which includes SilverGlo wall insulation panels to keep heat in and create a vapor barrier.

With all the products installed in the crawl space and basement, this homeowner was overjoyed with the results. All the products resolved all of their concerns and now has a peace of mind.

Even though there isn't standing water in the space at this moment, the discoloration of the bottom floor reveals past water influx.

Drainage matting is installed with our CleanSpace system to help direct water to the sump pump and drainage system. The matting is also a great vapor barrier in general and will keep water out of your crawl space.

WaterGuard is a full perimeter drainage system that directs the water into our sump pump system, which then pumps the water out of the basement and away from the home.

Adding spray foam to this homeowner's crawl space rim joists will help seal air from entering and exiting their home, making it more comfortable for this family. Another benefit of spray foam is that it's permanent and will not snag. It prevents rodents, and bugs from entering the home.
