Basement Waterproofing Case Studies: Chandler, IN Basement and Crawlspace Safe from Water

Challenge

Homeowner Joellen M. from Chandler, IN was having issues with mold growth and unwanted water inside her home, especially her basement. Her basement is unique because it has both a basement and a crawl space. They had mold on the bottom of all the walls due to bad insulation in the walls and the temperature change was causing condensation. These issues made this place in the house somewhere they didn't want to be, and they wanted to change that, so they gave us a call.

Our challenge was to give this family the dry basement and crawl space they deserved, as well as eliminate the mold, and we knew exactly what would do the trick.

Solution

The first step was to remediate the mold that was growing. The remediation process includes removing all mold-damaged materials, drying out the basement or crawl space, and thoroughly cleaning all surfaces.

Then, a WaterGuard system was installed around the perimeter of the basement. It is engineered specifically to be an efficient, long-lasting interior perimeter basement waterproofing system. It sits on top of the footing, instead of alongside it, keeping mud from getting into the drain. Once the concrete is poured back over, the system is hidden and your floor is good as new.

Once the crawl space was insulated, a CleanSpace liner was fixed to the walls and floor. This liner is incredibly durable and seals off the space keeping moisture and outside air from entering the crawl space. Antimicrobial additives in CleanSpace also prevent mold growth.

Before the work was done, the crawl space had a dirt floor and was full of moisture and debris. This created the perfect environment for mold growth.

Mold growth occurs when spores find the right combination of temperature, food source, and moisture.

Standing water in your basement is no good, especially when it creates high humidity and excess moisture.

A trench is dug around the perimeter of the basement to install a WaterGuard system. It has a design that separates it from the soil under your floor so it will never clog. It also has a special wall flange that creates a neat space between the floor and the wall to drain away any wall seepage.

Drainage matting is installed in the crawl space under the CleanSpace liner to allow water to freely flow to the sump pump. This will keep the crawl space free of standing water.

Concrete is poured over the WaterGuard system to give it a finished look, and you'll never even know its there. It will keep your basement clean and dry so you can use the space for storage, recreational purposes, or to finish for additional living space.
