Newburgh Basement Flooding Leads to Mold

The first step in the mold remediation and basement waterproofing process is to seal off the basement and cover all surfaces.

All HVAC vents are covered up with layers of plastic and duct tape to ensure that no mold spores enter the heating and cooling system.

The Healthy Spaces team uses a thick plastic to cover the surfaces. The plastic will be removed and properly disposed of once the remediation is complete.

This basement bedroom suffered some of the worst mold growth in the basement. The carpet has already been removed, as have the drop ceiling tiles.

All plastic must overlap and be sealed with tape in order to insure that mold spores cannot fall back onto already cleaned surfaces.

A more rigid and thick plastic is used on the floor, so that it does not tear easily.

Here, you can see that the crew has hooked up the air filtration units to make sure that the air is cleaned of mold spores as well.

The crew has made sure that the floor is completely covered and that the wall covers drape onto the floor. The two pieces of plastic will be taped together in this overlap to insure that the debris is contained.

Next, all plastic is removed and properly disposed of before the Waterguard installation can begin. Here, the carpet has been removed and the drywall is going to be cut away at the bottom to make room for the crew to install the Waterguard system.

This is the completed channel, where the Waterguard will be placed. After the Waterguard is installed, you won't be able to tell that it's there!
