Foundation Repair Case Studies: Foundation Fix in Whitesville, KY
Homeowner Melvin H. from Whitesville, KY had noticed his retaining wall starting to cave inwards towards his garage. With all of the rainfall that Kentucky received this past spring, he knew that the pressure that the soil was exerting was the problem. He wanted a solution to push the wall back to its original place, and Healthy Spaces did just that.
Design Specialist, Damon Cheatham, met with the homeowners and discussed a plan of action along with a quote the same day. This GeoLock wall anchor system that was installed consists of galvanized steel earth anchors that are embedded into the soil out away from the foundation wall. They are connected to steel wall plates with steel rods.
Now that the anchors are installed, it will hold the wall in its current position without any further adjustment. A unique and important feature of this system is its ability to be tightened during dry periods, allowing for improvement and straightening of the wall over time.
After the work has been done, the piers are covered up with the soil that was originally there, and you'll never know that wall once had foundation issues!
The rods are connected to these steel plates in the earth. This system provides the best opportunity to straighten the wall over time.
This photo is before any work had been done to the wall. It is holding a lot of weight with the soil pressing against it, and when it rains, the soil expands and puts even more pressure on it.
The anchor system are installed by drilling a hole through the wall and is then connected to an earth anchor seated deep within the hole. A wall plate is placed on the other side of the wall and is secured to the rod.
