Huntingburg Home Saved: Bowing Basement Wall Stabilized with Geo-Lock Anchors
Challenge
Situation / Trigger:
When a homeowner in Huntingburg, IN noticed bowing and cracking in their basement wall, they became concerned about the structural integrity of their home and potential safety hazards.
Motivation / Desired Outcome:
They wanted a professional solution to stabilize the wall, reduce further movement, and protect their basement space, ideally while keeping the appearance neat and minimizing disruption.
Solution
Solution / Execution:
Healthy Spaces addressed the concern by:
- Installing Geo-Lock Wall Anchors as specified on the job drawing, using a 12"x18" wall support and a 16"x26" anchor plate below grade, with final locations adjusted for field conditions.
- Adding 6' anchor extensions connecting with locking couplers to ensure robust wall stabilization.
- Installing removable Hide-A-Way Anchor covers to conceal exterior anchor plates for aesthetic purposes.
- Excavating soil away from the wall as indicated, back-filling, and tamping soil after installation (with note that some settling may occur and additional dirt is not provided by Healthy Spaces).
- Attempting to straighten the wall where possible, with the understanding that full restoration to the original position is not guaranteed due to field conditions.
- Applying SentrySeal to the excavated walls prior to back-filling to enhance protection, while clarifying this does not guarantee a dry basement (dry basement guarantees are only provided with interior drainage systems).
- Installing dust containment to protect the surrounding area during the project.
Outcome / Result:
The wall was reinforced with Geo-Lock Wall Anchors, minimizing further bowing or cracking, with concealed anchor plates for aesthetics and a more stabilized basement structure. The homeowner received professional, safe, and minimally invasive stabilization of their basement wall.
