Starr N. from Lewisport, KY was having issues with her floors. She had noticed that they were beginning to slope, creak, and felt uneven. As if the creaking floors weren't enough, she also noticed a musty smell worsening over time, which she thought could be mold.
System Design Specialist, Mike McAtee, came to Starr's home to provide her with a free no-obligation inspection. He did a thorough inspection of her crawl space, as well as her main floor. When he was finished, he proposed a solution for the sagging floor. He recommended that SmartJack Stabilizers be installed. These are steel support systems used to stabilize and level the girders and floor joists in a crawl space. This is the best opportunity to lift the above floors and walls back to their original position. This would be a permanent solution, unlike the light-duty jack posts that were currently in the crawl space. These don't work because they can hold very little weight, are difficult to adjust, and don't address the most important problem- the weak foundation soils below.

Our client in Lewisport, KY began experiencing a bouncy, squeaky floor. After calling Healthy Spaces for a free inspection, it was discovered they had concrete blocks stacked on top of the footer, with wooden "shims" wedged in at the top to fill any empty space. This solution doesn't work because as the concrete columns later settle into the soil below, additional shims may need to be added. In other words, this is a repair that will never permanently be fixed!
Our team replaced some of their supplemental beams and installed 5 SmartJacks. The SmartJack system addresses a solid base of engineered fill to distribute the weight of the home. Galvanized steel columns are cut to length, set on a cast of aluminum footing and secured to existing girders or supplemental beams with adjustable top brackets.
This Celestine, IN home was have a problem with expansive soils pressing inward on the block foundation basement walls. The pressure was causing bulging and cracking, which besides being ugly, was actually showing the foundation needed reinforcing in those areas.
The standard repair is usually to anchor the wall by driving rugged steel wall anchors from the interior of the basement through virgin soil out to an anchor in the yard. The wall anchor system is not functional in every situation. There was a challenge to repairing this wall because there wasn't adequate easement on the side of the house to allow for wall anchoring. Due to the extremely tight quarters, anchoring was out. Instead, Chris, the design specialist, suggested reinforcing and stabilizing the wall with beams called PowerBraces. Powerbraces anchor above the wall and below it to keep the wall stable and the foundation movement from affecting safety. The installation took just a couple days and was an immediate relief to the worried homeowners!
When Dane H. from French Lick, IN would walk across his floors upstairs, he knew they were uneven. Every time he walked across them, they creaked. Dane had been putting them off, but finally decided that enough was enough. He decided to call Healthy Spaces to see what the best solution would be.
Design Specialist, Mike McAtee, came out to do a thorough inspection of Danes basement. To stabilize the floor upstairs, 4 SmartJacks were installed. These SmartJacks are a steel support system that is used to permanently stabilize and level the girders and floor joists. They don't replace the existing columns and piers but add strength and stability to what is there. After these are installed, they lift the above floors and walls back toward their original position.
Since the work was completed, Dane hasn't heard his creaking floors.
Tom used his home in McDaniels, KY, as his vacation home. His walkout basement had a half wall that had a crack in it and gave Healthy Spaces a call for a free, no-obligation inspection.
Our team installed 4 GeoLock Wall Anchors which are heavy-duty steel earth anchors that are embedded in stable soil away from the foundation wall. They're connected to steel wall plates with galvanized steel rods. Once tightened, the anchors hold the wall securely in place. The system can also be tightened during dry seasons to further straighten walls over time.
